Your little ones should start having some cheeky pegs poke through around six months old, however, this can vary a lot. Six months either side of this window is still ok, however, you should have an opinion with a professional.

Children under the age of six should have about 20 teeth in total. 10 on the top and 10 on the bottom, same as fingers and toes…. we hope. If you can’t count 20 teeth by the time your child turns three, do yourself a favour and please call us.

Kids will start to lose baby teeth around six years of age unless they’ve had dental trauma in the past. Unfortunately, dental traumas are common with little ones.

Kids should go to the dentist every six months, just like adults should. There are a lot of changes happening in your little one’s mouth as they grow, and just because their teeth are smaller, doesn’t mean they’re not as important.

Some children will benefit from the CDBS (child dental benefits scheme). CBDS is means-based, and we can check for you when you arrive for your appointment, however, it may be easier for you to contact Medicare and see if you are eligible.
As a general rule of thumb, we recommend scheduling your child’s first dental visit at around six months old. You can then begin to schedule kids routine check-ups and cleans twice a year. To help ensure your little one is ready for their appointment, you can take a few steps at home:

Medicare CDBS, Free Dental For Kids
Did you know that your kids could be entitled to over $1000 of basic children’s dentistry services under the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). The CDBS can be accessed over a two-calendar-year period and will leave you with no out-of-pocket costs.
CDBS Eligibility
If you receive government benefits, hold a Medicare card and your child is aged between 0-17 years, they may be elidable for the Child Dental Benefit Schedule. To see if your children are eligible, you can check here.
What’s included in CDBS?
If your children are eligible, they will be entitled to $1052 of basic dental services, including dental check-ups and cleans, x-rays, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions.
